HOMEWORK:

Grade 7 & 8 students are expected to spend up to one hour per day on revision,
reinforcement, reading and tasks.

Note: Homework may be given on any day but will be due on the specified day except where
the homework comprises completion of classwork where this could, and should, have been
completed in class.

Regular assessment tasks are done throughout the term. Homework prior to a formal
assessment must include revision. A school Homework Diary is issued to the students.
Signing of the homework diary forms an integral part of parent teacher communication, and
should be done daily. Parents wishing to comment or query anything may use the diary as
part of the overall communications network. If communication does not take place it may
lead to misunderstandings – please communicate. There is a saying which goes like this:
‘Sort out the tadpole before it becomes a bullfrog.’

LUNCHES

Day scholars may either stay for the lunch provided or go home for lunch and be returned for
extra-curricular activities in the afternoon.

Forms for lunch are available at the front office and must be returned to the school as soon as
possible. A full term’s notice is required if parents no longer wish to make use of this facility.

SIGNING OUT

All students leaving school during school hours must be signed out at the receptionist’s
office. Under no circumstances may students wait at the gate to be collected. Should a child
be going home with someone other than a parent, it is imperative that the administration staff
or relevant class teacher is notified timeously in writing.

ABSENTEEISM

If a student is absent from school, he/she must bring a note covering the period of his/her
absence, giving a reason. A note must be sent in advance if a parent requests that a child to
be excused from activities or a class.

If the period of absence from school or “off-games” is longer than 3 days, a doctor’s
certificate is required. These notes should be addressed for the attention of the Headmaster,
or relevant teacher in charge. The student’s full name and surname as well as his/her class
should be stated. It is not necessary, under normal circumstances, to telephone to advise of
short absences. A note, addressed to the form teacher/coach will suffice.

VALUABLES

Parents are asked to discourage their children from bringing expensive watches, pens and
other valuables to school. Members of staff cannot be held responsible for such items being
lost on the school premises. Cellphones are prohibited. (Check cell phone policy) In a case
of emergency either the school can make the call on the learner’s behalf and or the parent can
contact the College.

LOST PROPERTY

All items of clothing must be clearly marked including sports clothing and equipment.
Students are responsible for their own clothing and equipment and must take responsibility to
ensure that it is well looked after and always kept in a safe place when not in use.

Lost property not claimed after one month will either be sold or donated to students less
fortunate than our own.

BOOKS

The school issues most textbooks and exercise books. Parents are requested to see that books
are well looked after. Failure to do so will result in your account being debited, with the cost
of replacing the book.

CLASSES

Classes are generally of mixed ability groupings. The number of pupils per class allows a
greater emphasis to be placed on individual instruction and guidance. Where it is found that
children require individual enrichment, such programmes will be structured and will take the
form of assistance lessons during normal school hours and, in some cases, after school.

PROBLEMS

If you have any queries or problems outside the classroom context these should be addressed
to the relevant person in charge or the Headmaster.

LITTER

No littering of any kind shall be tolerated.
If a student sees a piece of paper or any other litter, he/she must pick it up and place it in one of the bins provided.
Classrooms must be left clean and tidy at the end of each period.
No suitcases/satchels, books or clothing may be left lying in school buildings or grounds after school.

VANDALISM
Walls, doors, ceilings, pinboards, blackboards, posters, desks and tables must be kept clean and clear of graffiti.
The damaging and/or defacing of school equipment, text books, library and exercise books and stationery is unacceptable.
No student may force a door or climb through a window to gain access to any of the school buildings or classrooms.

No student may tamper with any vehicle, bicycle or motorcycle which is not his own.
All bicycles must be securely locked at the start of the school day.
No student may remove, tamper with, or use, without the permission of the owner, any suitcase, books, clothing, personal effects or equipment which do not belong to him.
All books and personal effects MUST be clearly marked with the owner's name.

BOUNDS

All offices, all laboratories and storerooms, computer rooms, book room, library, gym, hall, amphitheatre, study, unless a teacher's permission is obtained and, in most cases, a teacher is present.
Teachers' desks and cupboards, as well as student’s suitcases, satchels and blazers may not be tampered with.
All classrooms are out of bounds unless a teacher has given permission for the use of that classroom.
Pupils may not use any of the school's facilities and equipment, including those for sport, before or after school hours without the necessary permission.

No loitering in the vicinity of the toilets after breaks.
When on an away sporting (or other) trip to another school (or any other place for that matter) no student – except with his parents and with the permission of either the Headmaster and or the sports teacher.
