The Story thus far...
Mitchell House Preparatory School was founded in 1994. For the first ten years of its existence it was housed in the old boarding establishment at Capricorn High School, Mitchell House, from which it takes its name.
The School's motto is Nil Cedendum, (Surrender nothing worthy). Its coat of arms depicts the torch bearer who lights the way.
Mitchell House is a co-ed school with classes from Grade 00 to Grade 10, with its first matriculation year expected to be 2012. While its ethos is Christian as stated in its mission, it is a multi-cultural school with an emphasis on inclusion and tolerance.
Mr Owen Thomas was the founding Headmaster. Mr Andrew Stead succeeded him in 2000, Mr Geoff Ward in 2005, followed by the current principal Mr Andrew Cook who took up the position at the end of 2009. Kieren O Brien joined the school for two years as Head of the College until Mr Cook took over as the Principal of the school.
In January 2005 Mitchell House Preparatory School moved from its rented premises adjacent to Capricorn High School to its own, brand new, campus on the Modjadjiskloof Road. In June 2006 Pathways Stimulation Centre was incorporated and became the Mitchell House Enrichment Centre. The Enrichment Centre caters for 16 children with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. These pupils are included where appropriate, but as much as possible.
In 2008 the Mitchell House College opened with its first intake of Grade Eights under the stewardship of Mr Kieron O'Brien
The current enrolment is 480 pupils.
