Foundation Phase
Pupils enter Grade 00 in the year in which they turn 5. In this grade pupils learn though play, in a safe and caring environment. The emphasis in the daily programme is on the emotional, physical and social development of the child ensuring that he or she is receptive to the more formal programme to follow.
The development of gross motor skills is considered to be of vital importance as good gross motor skills positively affects all areas of learning in later years.
The teacher, besides having the requisite formal qualifications, is affectionate, calm and trustworthy, allowing pupils to blossom in a secure and loving environment.
The school day begins at 08:00 and ends at 12:00, while supervision is provided from 07:30 until 13:00. Pupils spend most of each day with their class teacher, although they are taught by specialists in the areas of Music, Computer Literacy and Physical Education.
Grade 00 pupils do not take part in extra-curricular activities. While they may attend ‘Aftercare’, we encourage parents to collect these pupils by 13:00.
