The Senior Primary (or intermediate phase)  includes pupils from Grade 4 to 6.

It is our intention to educate and develop the whole child. All children are therefore required to take part in a minimum of two hours per week of the seasonal, competitive sport and participate in a ‘Club’ for one hour per week. We endeavour to develop not only the child’s knowledge, but also skills, a positive attitude, and a sound value system.

Grade 4 is characterised by ‘paired teaching; whereby pupils are taught most subjects (English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History and Geography) by two teachers thus minimising the number of times pupils change classes. Specialist teachers are used for subjects such as ICT and Music. Grade 5 and 6 pupils move from class to class, being taught by specialist subject teachers. There are two classes per grade with a maximum number of 25 pupils in a class. All classes are of mixed ability groups. The curriculum is broad-based to ensure that pupils are given a firm foundation for future development and progress.  Pupils are encouraged to exercise a high degree of self-discipline, as well as to develop sound values such as good manners, respect for others and property, and a sense of responsibility for their own learning. Grade 5 and 6 Pupils go on at least one tour per year. These tours are arranged well in advance and are for between 4 and 5 days.

The school has four terms. At the end of the first term a report commenting on the pupil’s progress is compiled. Parents are invited to collect this in person and meet with the teachers. Comprehensive reports, including scores for each of the learning areas as well as comments on the pupil’s progress are distributed at the end of the second and fourth terms. These scores are based on continuous informal and formal assessment tasks as well as pen and paper tests. Examinations are written at the end of the fourth term.
